Practical information

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions.

Below you´ll find the answer to frequently asked questions.

  • You can drive all the way up to Steinbergdalshytta.

  • During winter season weather conditions can be rough at 1070 m.a.s.l. If the mountain crossing Aurland Hol is closed, it means you are stuck at Steinbergdalshytta. This is a memorable experience and is warmly recommended.

  • There is a limited amount of parking spaces by the cabin. During the summer season you can take the bus. To check the schedule, visit kringom.no.

  • Steinbergdalshytta is a mountin lodge.  This means that accommodation is basic, but homely.  Our rooms have bunk beds (with new, high quality mattresses), and there are toilets and newly refurbished shower rooms in the hallway, or accross the yard if you have a room in the annex.  Every room has a wash basin with hot and cold water.

  • Steinbergdalshytta is located halfway between Geiterygghytta and Østerbø. This stretch is considered a one day hike if you’re used to hiking in the mountains. However, there are good reasons for spending a night or two at Steinbergdalshytta if you’re not on a tight schedule and need to move fast from A to B.

  • The cabin is the oldest in the Aurland valley, and the timber log building from 1895 has an atmosphere and a coziness to it that you find few other places.

  • Early in the season, that is late June and early July, snow and rivers full of water will slow you down, and the 10 km hike from Geiterygghytta will most likely take more than 3-4 h .

  • If you’re still up for a longer hike we recommend that you walk via Kongshelleren. Then you get a full day hike in alpine terrain away from the main stream. From Steinbergdalshytta to Østerbø, it’s a good tip to walk east of Nosafjellet, via Grøna and down Sauavad valley. The path is not marked with red Ts, but the terrain is easy to walk.

  • Apart form that, there are abundant possibilities for day hikes and activities around Steinbergdalshytta, so making the place your base for a couple of days could be a wise choice.

  • Bring your own sleeping bag or bed linnens (renting bed linnen is possible - additional fee).

  • Dogs are welcome at no extra cost. In the annex you can have your dog with you in your room.

  • Breakfast is served between 8 am and 9 am. Dinner at 7 pm.
